The struggle of killing a witch

“Why do witches have to suffer while the flames are eating up their body, you may have wondered.
Is there not a way to punish them and end their threat to this world without commiting such an act of horror? Do we need to smell their flesh melting and listen to their screams? The screaming of a voice once known so well, and now a phantom of fear?

The simple response to this is yes we do.

For if we do not, the witch will haunt us.
The evil soul spit out by death will never leave us alone.

If we cut off the head, they will still be seen roaming the forest at night.
If we then come back and cut off arms and legs, their shape will still linger in the shadows.
A shape once loved and desired, but now forever corrupted.

Witches were seen like this.
Witches broke hearts like this.
Graves had to be opened, rotten bodies to be mutilated, and still it did not help!
All their remains have to burn.
For innocent souls to rest at night.”

… were the words of an executioner who could not believe his own eyes anymore.
